Shipping & Packaging Process

  • Flat Packing Only: I never roll original pastel artwork in a tube.

  • Surface Protection: The face of the painting is protected with professional, acid-free glassine paper to prevent smudging.

  • Rigid Shielding: The artwork is sandwiched between two sheets of heavy-duty foam board or sturdy cardboard to prevent bending.

  • Stiff Envelope Delivery: The sandwiched artwork is placed inside a rigid, heavy-duty flat envelope to ensure it remains completely flat and unbent during transit.

  • Insurance & Tracking: All shipments are fully insured, tracked, and require a signature upon delivery.

Framing Instructions (Crucial for Pastels)

Original pastels must be framed under glass to protect the loose pigment particles from dust, moisture, and touch.

  • Never Touch the Surface: Keep the protective glassine paper on the painting until it is ready to be framed. Never touch the pastel pigment with your fingers.

  • Use a Mat Board or Spacer: The artwork must never touch the glass directly. Condensation can ruin the pigment. Ensure your framer uses a double mat board or a plastic frame spacer to create a gap between the art and the glass.

  • Choose UV-Protective Glass: While I use professional, lightfast pastels, framing with UV-filtering glass (like Museum Glass) will permanently shield your painting from sun fading.

  • Do Not Use Fixative: Please instruct your framer not to spray any fixatives on the artwork, as this can permanently alter the values and colors of the realistic details.

Placement & Care in Your Home

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Hang your framed pastel away from intense, direct sunlight to preserve the colors.

  • Avoid High Humidity: Do not hang original pastels in bathrooms or damp environments.

  • Static Warning: Avoid using acrylic or plexiglass instead of traditional glass. Acrylic holds a static charge that can literally pull the loose pastel dust off the paper and onto the screen.
